About Xie Meng…
In Borges’s story “the Aleph”: a point in space that contains all other points in space, so that if you stare at it long enough you can see everything in it.
Before I started to paint, I read Borges and others whoever can take my mind to far unknown places. Born and rise in Beijing I was hungry child who wondered what is beyond all this…
I have been always very sensitive to beauty. I draw nonstop since I was a child. It simply brings me joy. Later I learned watching an object long enough till everything else faded so the objects become alive. I draw them as they are alive.
Painting often is like languages between mystery and intuition. It also is like a foreign story that I wait to see where leads me. Often it surprises me so I surrender to it and let it open me to unknown places I never imagined. When that happens is a truly fantastic day!
Xie Meng was born and raised in Beijing, studied Chinese calligraphy since age 4. Studied briefly with “Zhu Xinjian” and “ Fang Lijun”. Moved to New York City 12 years ago. Now lives and works in Hillsdale, NY.
